In the framework of the project TUBITAK 1001 research project ‘Period integrals associated to Algebraic varieties’ (total budget 344.959TL, 03/2017- 03/2020) the following position will be available from October 2018: Master student 2200TL/month (12 months) Persons who get interested in this project (see the attached file for the description of the research plan) are invited to contact me. Araştırma konuları : Transcendental algebraic geometry. Cebirsel variyetelerin topolojisi, İlgili karmaşık analiz ve geometri. Monodromy groups. Discrete/arithmetic groups and representation theory. Galois covering and branching, degeneration of algebraic varieties. Topology of hyperplane arrangements, amoebas, Braid groups. Hodge structure of the cohomology. Mirror symmetry conjecture (Fukaya category and derived category of coherent sheaves). Differential equations on the complex domain (Gel'fand-Kapranov-Zelevinski hypergeometric functions. Gauss-Manin systems: Picard-Fuchs eq.). We organize regular seminars every 3 weeks on Saturdays. The persons in charge give talks accessible to an audience with minimal prerequisites so that any desiring person may arrive at research level during one year or so. Last year the talks included following subjects: Gauss hypergeometric functions and their monodromy group (algebraicity criteria), Introduction to toric geometry by W.Fulton (Chap. 1,2), Coherent sheaves (after lectures by R.Vakil 'FOUNDATIONS OF ALGEBRAIC GEOMETRY'), Zariski –van Kampen theorem on fundamental groups, Pochhammer hypergeometric functions and their applications to the mirror symmetry.
